Kim Vorberger: Clean + Slow Living

My introduction to ingredient awareness began when I started using essential oils. Our daughter was a toddler at the time, so we had a little one crawling around on the floor and putting everything in her mouth!

During this time, I learned that most conventional cleaning products contain ingredients that are known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors (hello infertility!) and have negative impacts on our immune, nervous, and respiratory systems.

When I decided to do an overhaul on our cleaning products, finding better options felt so overwhelming, but once I found a few resources that I’m sharing with you here, it all became wildly simple.

The product that made the switch easy for me was Thieves Household Cleaner. It is a plant-based all-purpose cleaner and can replace 90% of the products you use in your home. We use it to clean everything; mirrors, sinks, faucets, countertops, bathtubs, and even toilets!

One of the key ingredients in this cleaner is Thieves essential oil, which contains immune-boosting oils like Cinnamon Bark and Clove. It comes in a concentrated liquid that you dilute with distilled water, and its cleaning power comes from the essential oils in Thieves versus harsh chemicals found in conventional products.

Here are some other non-toxic cleaning ideas you can incorporate into your clean living lifestyle that won’t compromise your immune and respiratory systems! All it takes is a few basic staples. You don’t need a cabinet full of special cleaners for everything.

  • Instead of air fresheners, switch to diffusing essential oils to purify the air and boost immunity

  • Ditch conventional laundry detergent and try Thieves Laundry Soap or DIY

  • Instead of disinfectant spray, switch to Thieves Household Cleaner. Dilute 1 capful with 3 cups of distilled water. Add to large amber glass spray bottles for your home, and travel-size glass spray bottles for on the go

  • Ditch the dryer sheets and use wool dryer balls. Add drops of essential oils for a natural scent

  • Instead of dusting spray, just use a microfiber cloth, no spray needed!

  • Ditch the toilet bowl cleaner & scrub paste. Switch to Thieves Cleaner and baking soda; Spray down your toilet, tub or shower with Thieves Cleaner, sprinkle with baking soda and scrub

Here are some common ingredients in conventional household products to watch out for and avoid:

· Fragrance

· Phthalates (in fragrances)

· SLS and SLES

· Methylisothiazolinone and Methylchloroisothiazolinone

· Parabens

· Dyes and artificial colors (FD&C and D&C)

· VOCs (these will show up on the ingredients list as the following: limonene, toluene, a-pinene, isoprene, methylene chloride, PERC, xylenes, methyl ethyl ketone, TCE, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, naphthalene, ethanol, formaldehyde, decane, butoxyethanol, isopentane, styrene, vinyl chloride, acetone, benzene, ethylene glycol, 1,3 butadiene, 2-butoxyethanol, heptane, butane, pentane)

If you are ready to ditch and switch and don’t want to use up the rest of your conventional products, contact your local recycling center instead of throwing them away or pouring them down the drain. Most jurisdictions have a different drop off for hazardous chemicals and can dispose of them properly.

If you want to get your hands on some Thieves Household Cleaner, essential oils, or any other non-toxic plant-based products, give me a shout on IG @kimvorberger or drop me an email at I would be honored to help you start your ditch and switch!

Know better, do better
